#6: Spooky Silverballs

October 30, 2024

The sixth issue of The Ball is Wild 🪩 pinball culture newsletter, published on October 30th, is all about Balloween! The editorial is about vertical pinball stacking, meaning virtual pinball playfields stacked on top of each other. This is a design practice that exists in videogames since the mid 80s and has been revisited a lot of times since.

In addition, this edition dives into spooky pinball designs, both physical and digital. When isn’t it the perfect time to do this if not on Hallo-, I mean Balloween?! There is also a tipp for a great stop-motion pinball art video from 2011 that is definitely worth a rewatch.

IN THIS SIXTH EDITION:

  • Editorial: Vertical pinball stacking
  • Interview: A conversation with Tom Voros,
    developer of Pinball Spire
  • News from the physical pinball world:
    Video recommendations from Pinball Expo
  • Balloween: Creepy machines
  • Balloween: Spooky videoballs
  • From the archives: Person Pinball
